If you’re experiencing challenges in your life, navigating unexpected change, or perhaps sensing a need for change, speaking with a professional Counsellor & Occupational Therapist can help you to instil a renewed sense of hope and enthusiasm for your future, as well as helping you to  develop and implement practical steps towards change.

My approach to Counselling & Occupational Therapy

I offer a confidential, non-judgmental, caring and compassionate Counselling & Occupational Therapy service. Together, in a collaborative partnership, we can define the nature of any issues you are facing, explore ideas to better manage or overcome them, and support you through any processes and changes you might consider in order to work through and beyond them.

My professional background

Prior  to  graduating with a Master of Counselling from The  University  of  Queensland,  I had  worked  for  nearly two  decades as a Brisbane-based Rehabilitation  Occupational  Therapist,  assisting  adults  (ranging in age  from 18  to 105 years!) to  recover  from  complex  medical issues, such as stroke,     trauma     (car     and    motorcycle    accidents),    cancer,    heart complications,   and   myriad   other   medical   conditions    and   surgical procedures.

After  working  with  thousands  of  hospital and community based clients, I’m  well  accustomed  to  helping  clients and  their families achieve their  maximum   potential,  navigate  what  can  be  a  complex  health  system, and discover  new possibilities and opportunities which some might have felt  were  initially  out  of  their  reach.  In  short,  I love helping people, in a  professional,  efficient  and  personable  manner - humour,  connection  and  collaboration underpin  my approach.

I  remain  Occupational   Therapy  credentialed,  and  so  can  also  advise  about   seeking  help  with  issues such  as  continued adjustment  to  and  recovery from  complex  medical  conditions (e.g., stroke,  neurosurgery,  cancer,  orthopaedic  procedures),  improvement  of  home layout  to maintain  safety  and  independence in one’s own  home,  returning  to  work,  healthy  ageing, assistance   with   conditions   such   as   hypertonicity  (spasticity)   and   management,  upper  limb  recovery  post  neurological  injuries   (e.g.,  stroke,  traumatic  brain  injury),   and   other   issues   such   as   adjusting   to   retirement, loss of loved ones, and
changing health status  and  role participation as we age.

What you can expect from me

You can expect my full attention, and genuine interest in and concern for your circumstances. I offer a flexible approach - together we can decide what is best for your consultation, whether that be in-person in a professional or home setting, via phone, even online - or, a combination of any of these options, as your needs and wishes dictate.
